Welcome! My name is Emma Wilcox and I am a fully qualified Hypnotherapist based in Wokingham, Berkshire. I am proud to provide mental health and wellbeing support for women at all points throughout their motherhood journey.

I experienced the power of hypnosis myself when I was pregnant for the first time in 2015. I went from being frightened of childbirth to having the most calm and happy pregnancy and actually looking forward to labour.

When my baby was born, I quickly realised that after months of careful preparation for the birth, I was completely unprepared for life with a newborn.

It struck me that there is a real lack of support for new mums, who are facing one of the most challenging times in their lives.

Even as your children grow, there are new and unexpected challenges. From rapidly changing hormones, to ‘mum brain’, ‘mum guilt’ and becoming a different person to who you were before children, motherhood can really impact your wellbeing.

Navigating each phase of parenthood, while extremely rewarding, can be exhausting and leave you with little time and energy for YOU.

As the saying goes: ‘You can’t pour from an empty cup’, so I am passionate about supporting women to take care of themselves at a time of their lives when they are so needed.

About Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is a brief intervention; you will usually make significant progress in a short space of time. It is equally effective whether practised in-person or online.

Hypnosis is gentle and very relaxing - perfect for busy, tired mums. In hypnotherapy, I focus on how your issue is showing up for you, the changes you want to see, and use hypnosis to help you reach your goal. It is all the more effective when you work towards your goal between sessions: by listening to hypnosis recordings, journaling, and practising mindfulness, for example.

Birth and perinatal trauma

A difficult birth experience or perinatal journey can have an enormously detrimental effect on the wellbeing of new parents. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms relating to the birth of your baby, it is possible that you are living with birth trauma:

  • Intrusive, upsetting thoughts about the event
  • Avoidance (such as avoiding thinking about the event)
  • Negative mood and thoughts (such as blaming yourself)
  • Hyperarousal (being ‘on edge’, irritability, difficulties with sleep and concentration)

In order to support parents experiencing symptoms of birth trauma, I trained with the TBR College of Perinatal Emotional Health in the Traumatic Birth Recovery 3 Step Rewind technique.

This is a safe, gentle and effective NLP exercise that aims to clear perinatal trauma symptoms and create the space to begin experiencing peace, hope and more positive feelings for parenthood.

This treatment is suitable for parents who are at least eight weeks postpartum, and have no previous serious mental health conditions.

The process typically takes just three sessions; these could be in person in my practice in Wokingham, or online from the comfort of your own home. It can be done alone or as part of a wider course of hypnotherapy. The cost of the three sessions is £200.

You can read more about the Traumatic Birth Recover 3 Step Rewind process at www.traumaticbirthrecovery.com. If you think you are experiencing birth or perinatal trauma and would like to discuss treatment, please get in touch via the email button on my ‘Contact me’ page.

Mindful Morning in Nature for families:

Funny Kid Exploring Nature with Magnifying Glass.

Join Joanna from Mini Nature Artists and myself for a mindful morning in nature, where families can connect, create land art and practise mindfulness together. Join us for a sensory walk around the stunning Harris Garden on the University of Reading campus, where we will explore the colours, textures, scents and sounds of the beautiful space.

Along our walk we will be collecting fallen items, and these, alongside items provided by Joanna, will then be used to create our very own land art - also known as transient art. Included in the ticket price is a recorded guided meditation to help you to capture your memories of the day and to incorporate nature into your relaxation practice.

1 May 2024, 10:00-11:30

Ticket prices: £4 for adults; £3.50 for children. Limited spaces available.
